Hmong Minnesota Leadership Conference
HMSA is thrilled to announce that we are reviving our annual Hmong Minnesota Leadership Conference!
HMLC is designed to be a space for individuals to receive career advice and advance their professional development. Through a panel session and workshops, we bring together passionate professionals to speak on their experiences navigating in their respective fields to educate the next generation. The theme for our conference this year is: Sib Txhawb Sib Pab (supporting one another): Share, Grow, Connect.
Everyone comes from different walks of life, holding different identities and experiences from their career. Through this year’s conference, we want to support and develop an awareness of Asian Americans in professional spaces through the process of storytelling (Share). In addition, we want HMLC to be a space that encourages personal and professional growth. By allowing participants to understand their identities better, we build reflective leaders who are equipped to handle future career obstacles (Grow). We believe that everyone who attends HMLC will leave feeling empowered and inspired by applying their knowledge to their future career path, communities, and beyond (Connect).
We hope this conference can unify us and move us to be advocates for change and equity so that we may “Sib Txhawb Sib Pab” or support one another. HMLC will educate us and show that Asian Americans can occupy any competitive professional landscape and be successful leaders.

Chav Hmoob
Looking for a place to study or chill on campus?🤔
Join HMSA & Kwv Tij Hmoob on the 3rd floor of Coffman Memorial Union! Despite having one of the largest concentrations of Hmong people in the United States, the University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus does not have a room for our community members to convene. This collaboration is an initiative to lend our community and peers the opportunity to take up space here on campus.
"Chav Hmoob" (Hmong Room) is a space to signify our presence here on campus. We intend to create an empowering space for our audiences to lend support to those of us unheard and unseen. Bring a friend or yourself and come hang with us! We'll see you there🤗
Note: HMSA will be holding Wednesday's and Thursday's office hours on the 3rd floor instead of the 2nd floor

We Don't Talk About... | An Encanto Debrief: Family Dynamics and Intergenerational Trauma
”He told me that the life of my dreams would be promised and someday be mine...” if I went to HMSA’s workshop on March 2 from 6pm to 8pm! 💃🌸✨
We are excited to invite you to our first workshop of the semester to discuss family dynamics and intergenerational trauma within the frames of the Disney film, Encanto! Though this film encapsulates the Latine experience, we believe that these topics can be closely tied to the Hmong experience and can often go unacknowledged within our community. HMSA would like to share a safe space to have a productive conversation with anyone who has enjoyed the film or would like to explore these themes further!
**NOT A SPOILER FREE EVENT** Though it is not a requirement to have seen the film to participate in this event, do be warned that major plot lines and character arcs will be revealed and discussed.
This workshop will be facilitated by our Multimedia Chair, Pasia Vang. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out via email at vang2846@umn.edu. We look forward to seeing you there!
